Ruth Clapp Walker, formerly of Reidsville, departed this life on Sunday March 5, 2017. Mrs. Walker was born on June 5, 1923 in Randolph County and moved to Rockingham County at an early age.
There will be a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Greenview Cemetery, Reidsville on Saturday, March 11, 2017. There will be no visitation. The family requests privacy.
Mrs. Walker was predeceased by her husband Clyde Walker; son, Benjamin Walker; parents, Charlie and Bessie Clapp; sisters, Franchis Clapp and Mrs. Beulah Hardin; grandson, Christopher Walker; and granddaughter, Ann Aaron. Left to cherish her memory are: sister, Mrs. Mildred Woodall; son, Timothy Walker; daughters: Mary Beth Seybert, Mrs. Melanie Hammons (David), Amanda Walker, and Tina Kirkpatrick; grandchildren: Jennifer, Brandon, Katie, Cameron, Hillary, Rachel; great grandchildren: T.J., Dakota, Justin, Michael, Colby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Walker loved her Lord and practiced Christian principles every day. She was a member of First Congregational Christian Church and later Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She loved her school days at Reidsville High School, served as a Marshal and student secretary to the principal. She was a secretary at several Reidsville businesses including the Boy Scouts of America Cherokee Council, and the Chamber of Commerce. She was known for her homemade cheese straws, handwritten notes and embroidered pillowcases. She loved her husband, her family and her dogs. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Walker contributed to several charities and nonprofits and some of her favorites were the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Samaritan’s Purse, Bible Broadcasting Network and her churches. To cherish her memory, friends of Mrs. Walker could consider donating to one of these or to a charity or nonprofit of their choice.
