Sallie Brooks Vaughan Smith was born January 22, 1924, of Talbott, TN, and formerly of Reidsville, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. She was a member of Magna View Baptist Church and a retired teacher from the Hamblen County School System. After retirement she volunteered at the Pregnancy Crisis Center in Hamblen County. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wake Forest and obtained a masters degree plus 40 from the University of Tennessee. For those of us who were fortunate enough to have our lives touched by her; she will always be loved and held in high esteem. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Knox and Sallie Mangum Vaughan; husband, Dr. William T. Smith; son, Knox Bradford Smith; grandson, Gabriel Devin Watkins; brothers, Earl and Jack Vaughan; sister, Louise (Earnest) Garrard; niece, Barbara J. Swanson; brothers-in-law, Fred (Inez) Smith, Russell (Margaret) Smith; sisters-in-law, Helen (Crawford) McCollum, Edna (Francis) Marshall, Ruth (Roy) Michaels, Mary Smith, Lily (Roscoe) Moricle, Sara (Willard) Page and Mabel Smith; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Smith (Ron Breeden); grandson, Darien (Liliya) Watkins; great granddaughters, Olivia, Saydee and Rayvyn; great grandsons, Austin, Alexander and Zachary; Sisters, Polly and Vivian Vaughan; nieces, Betty (Patrick) Smith, Maryann (Jack) Freeman, Judy (Benny) Land and Nancy (Jack) Knight; nephews, J.R. (Zelda) Smith and Donald (Brenda) Moricle; great niece, Deborah (Jonathan) Walker; great nephew, Allen Swanson; cousin, Philips Latta; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Greenview Cemetery.
