Sara Wright Childress

Sara Wright Childress, 93, of Browns Summit, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Clapps Nursing Home in Pleasant Garden.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, NC with Rev. Kevin Cochran officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00pm at the funeral home before the service. Burial will immediately follow at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery in Brown Summit, NC.

Born in LaGrange, GA on April 14, 1931 to the late Riley and Lucille Wright. She worked for many years in the textile industry, but the job she loved most was at Kendal Center of Guilford County where she worked with mentally and physically disabled children and adults. Sara loved to cook and shop and was also a proud member of Friendship Church’s Sunshine Club. Sara was a wonderful loving mother who was always there with a smile and never any judgement. She loved with her whole heart and always put others needs and wants before her own.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Louis Wright, Fred Wright, and Frances Wagoner. 

She is survived by her children, Wanda Childress Ball and husband Ken, Woody Childress and wife Lauren; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, 5222 E NC Highway 150, Brown Summit, NC 27214.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Clapps Nursing home for making the last year and a half of Mom’s life happy and fulfilled.
