Reidsville: Sarah Catherine Mitchell Boyd, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church at 3 p.m. with Dr. Greg Robertson officiating. A visitation for family and friends will take place two hours prior to the service and other times at the home. The burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Boyd was born in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Henry Wilson Mitchell, Sr. and Olive Hanlon Mitchell. She grew up attending Mt. Herman Baptist Church and most recently was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a virtuous woman serving tirelessly as a homemaker and mother to all. She always had food and desserts in her kitchen and the table was a haven for many. Her green thumb always produced an abundant garden and beautiful flowers which allowed her to share with family, neighbors and friends. Along with her parents Mrs. Boyd was also preceded in death by her husband, Wm Earl Boyd, and her brother, Henry W. Mitchell, Jr.
Mrs. Boyd is survived by her children, Janet Rakestraw and husband, Harry, Daniel Boyd and wife, Mary and John Boyd and wife, Sharon, all of Reidsville; her grandchildren, Jason Rakestraw and wife, Sarah, Katherine Hall and husband, Justin and Kris Boyd and Alexis McIlroy; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Luke, Hunter, Isaac and Emma; sisters, Nancy Cooke of Morehead City, NC, Betty Warr and Joan Crumpton, both of Reidsville; a large extended family; and special friends, Bonnie Issacs and Barbara Roach.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Carleen Wilson, Cindy Foust and Susan Wilson.
