Shelby Jean Land Washburn

Reidsville, Shelby Jean Land Washburn, 76, went home to be with the Lord, Monday morning, September 15, 2014, with her son, Daryll and her Hospice nurse holding her hands. Memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Shelby lived in Reidsville all of her life. She was a 1956 graduate of Reidsville Senior High School. Her first job was at Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company, where she worked from 1956 to 1959, in 1959 she married her husband, Fletcher Davis Washburn, III and they started Washburn’s Esso , a store on Highway 29, they closed in 1979. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Fletcher Davis Washburn, III; parents, Jessie James and Ellen Rice Land; brothers, Roy, Woodrow, Doug, Cleve and Claude Land; sister, Mildred Land Paschal. Shelby is survived by her sons, Daryll Keith Washburn and Nathan Davis Washburn and wife, Louise; granddaughters, Danielle “Nicole” Washburn and Jennifer Cook and husband, Bradley; brothers, Rev. Jesse Jack Land and wife, Betty, Benny Land and wife, Judy; sisters, Theressa Land Willis and Dorothy Land Easter; great grandson, Kenan Cook; step grandchildren, Jonathan & Patrick Sams;loved like a grandchild, J.C. Muncy; special niece, Barbara Martin; special sister-in-law, Lorene Land and special friend, Ken Mabe. The family will meet at the home of Daryll Washburn, 1211 Linville Drive, Apt. 4, Reidsville, NC and other times at the home of Nathan Washburn, 114 Courts Road, Reidsville, NC.
