Shirley Yvonne Callahan Benton

Eden: Shirley Yvonne Benton, 75, of 190 Highland Ave., went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Church of God of Prophecy, 13811 Old State Hwy 87 North, Eden with Pastor Les Herod officiating. The burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery. Mrs. Benton was born in Rockingham County to the late Charles and Lillie Hundley Callahan. She was retired from Bassett-Walker with over 20 years of service. A long time and faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy, she enjoyed singing in the choir for several years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Pete” Benton; her daughter, Julia Benton; one brother and 5 sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Benton and fiancé, Donald Bray of Reidsville; her grandchildren, Matthew Hodges of Reidsville and Crystal Knight and husband, Dale of Sandy Ridge, NC; special niece, Betty Hutchens and husband, Ray of Madison and several other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Eden and other times at Tammy’s home (255 Liveoak Road, Reidsville, NC 27320).
