Reidsville – Starley Elmore Fain, 94, passed away early Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Fisher and Rev. Bill McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Mr. Fain was a native of Rockingham County and was the son of the late, James Elmer Fain and Pearl Gilley Fain. Starley was also known as an amazing carpenter, bluegrass musician, and father and grandfather. He was a decorated Navy Veteran while serving in the Pacific. He was known for his witty sayings and stories that he loved to tell. He retired from the NC Highway Department after 30+ years of service. Starley always had a smile on his face, even when engaged in hard work, which was most of the time. Being honorable and highly respected, he will be missed by his family and all who knew him. He was a true gentleman and always wanted everyone to be treated fairly.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Holt Fain; daughter, Patricia Fain McKinney; sisters: Kathryn Fain Griffin, Elaine Fain Bradsure, Gaynell Fain Stanley, Nannie Fain Stanley; and brothers: Clifton, Irvin and Willis Fain.
Starley is survived by his sons: James Fain and wife, Myra and Forrest Fain and wife, Debbie, both of Reidsville; a brother, Mondew and wife, Loretta of Ashland, Va.; sister-in-law, Lorretta Holland of Stoneville; and 9 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 5:00 till 7:00 PM and other times at his family home.
