Stella Vay Mabry

Reidsville: Stella Vay Davis Mabry went to be with her Heavenly Father at sunrise on Easter Sunday morning, April 5, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 9, at 2:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Dwain Hill and Rev. Robert Pruitt officiating. The burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Stella was born in the mountains of North Carolina on October 18, 1922 in Grandview, NC to the late Joseph McKinley and Winnie Jones Davis. She was of the Baptist faith and was a charter member of Guerrant Springs Baptist Church for 51 years and a charter member of New Heights Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Spiritual Baptist Church. She was active in her church as Clerk and Treasurer for many of those years. She loved her church family and worked well with all of them. Everyone who knew her knew she truly loved the Lord and His work and was a faithful servant to Him. She was a Girl Scout Leader in the years that her children were in school. Mrs. Mabry retired from Burlington Industries in 1987 where she had worked for 22 years as a receptionist and switchboard operator. After retiring from Burlington, she worked 3 years at K-Mart of Reidsville and then as a courier for Annie Penn Hospital. Stella was a loyal volunteer for Annie Penn Hospital and the Red Cross for over 24 years and remained quite active until 2013, when she had to slow down due to declining health. She loved her many friends and co-workers while there. She was a bright light among those who knew her. Her greatest accomplishments have been in the lives of her loved ones. She had a gift to appreciate the talents of others and to encourage them and lift them up with her love. Her kind heart always filled her home and the lives of those around her, with love. In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. M. R. Mabry to whom she was married for 46 years at the time of his death in 1992; two sisters Bertha Mae Fairchild and Louise Roberts; and three brothers: Clyde Davis, Mac Davis, and James Gregory. She is survived by three sons and three daughters: John Parmele, Jr. and wife Nancy of Virginia Beach, VA; Alton Ray Mabry (Skip) of Reidsville, and Milburn Christopher Mabry (Chris) and wife Sandy of Forest, VA; Deborah Vay Mabry-Warren and husband Wayne, Miriam Mabry, and Jill Mabry Langley and the late Ralph Langley, all of Reidsville. She also has two stepdaughters, Linda Davis and Pat Larkin of Loganville, GA. She is also survived by a sister Belle and husband Bob, Williams of Heflin, AL.; and brother, Floyd and wife, Angela Davis also of Heflin, AL. There are 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed wonderful neighbors, especially Morris and Myrtle Huskey, and lots of friends. She leaves her friends and family with the knowledge that they were truly loved and appreciated.
