Stephen Eugene Reed

Reidsville – Stephen Eugene Reed, 68, of 2216 Gibbs Road, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Penn Center in Reidsville. Funeral services will be held Sunday evening 6:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Eden with Rev. Peter Smith officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard after the service. Also, the family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 4:30 – 5:45 PM at the church and other times at the home. There will also be a memorial service in Victor, NY at a later date. Steve was born in Canandaigua, NY to the late Karl and Elaine Olmstead Reed. He served as a paratrooper in the United States Army, 173rd Airborne Brigade during the Vietnam War. He started his construction career as a journeyman painter and later worked at Victor Roofing and Siding Company, the Nazareth Academy Schools and as the maintenance director at First Presbyterian Church in Eden. He loved his family first, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed euchre, playing horseshoes, woodworking and camping. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister, Lori Ann Reed. He is survived by his wife, Caren Garvey Reed of the home; his daughter, Becky Reed Smaldone and husband, Ed of Reidsville; his son, Scott Reed and wife, Kerry of Hopkinton, MA; grandchildren, Tayton Smaldone, Isabella Smaldone, Lucas Reed and Grayson Reed; sisters, Carol Reed of Loveland, CO and Joice Kelley Biek and husband, Jim of Conesus, NY; brother, Dale Reed of Victor, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
