Reidsville, NC – Thelma Starnes Smith, 80, of 1507 US Hwy 87, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 10, 2009 along with her daughter, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Mickey Alcorn officiating. The burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Smith was born in Anson County and was the daughter of the late James Charlie and Virginia Mills Starnes. She was formerly employed with The American Tobacco Company, Burlington Industries and later was the co-owner and operator of Smith’s Grocery. She was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan and she enjoyed fishing. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Smith; her daughter, Karen “Kay” Smith; and her grandsons, Matthew Steven and Mark Houston McCollum.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughters, Patricia Smith McCollum of Reidsville and Cheryl Smith Andrews and husband, Billy of Brown Summit; her son, Jeffrey Smith of Warner Robins, GA; her grandchildren, Jennifer Bolden, Tonya McCollum, Eric McCollum, Alex McCollum, Paul Andrews, Brandy Isley and husband, Michael, Andy Andrews and fiancé, Ashley Webster, Marli Smith and Coy Smith; her great grandchildren, Gage McCollum, Kenan Bolden, Brianna Bolden, Devan Bolden, Gracie Isley and Rylan Isley; her brother, Arthur “Pete” Starnes; her sisters, Edna Paschal and Virginia Billingsley all of Reidsville, numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Patricia Hairston.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6 – 8:00 PM and other times at the residence.
