Browns Summit: Theodore Roosevelt Spencer, 91, of 7600 Friendship Church Road, died on Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Rockingham County Hospice Home.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, February 7, 2011 at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park with military graveside rites.Theodore was born in Randolph County to the late Isaac Luther Spencer and Ethel Farlow Spencer. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII, member of Monticello United Church of Christ, Rockingham VFW and the Tobacco Growers Association (TAGNC). He was a retired tobacco farmer and also worked at Lorillard Tobacco Company. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Odell and Cohen Spencer; sisters, Polly Tillotson, Gladys Hough, Juanita Spencer, Virginia Blythe and Stella Blaylock.He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Vivian Faucette Spencer of the home; sons, Larry Spencer and wife, Resa of Brown Summit, Ted Spencer and wife, Myrtis of Fayetteville; daughters, Martha Mahaffey and husband, Steve of Winston Salem, Judy Sutton and husband, Ken of Raleigh; grandchildren, Michelle Arnold and husband, Chris, Kimberly Spencer, Meredith Harper, Melissa Sutton and Matthew Spencer; great grandchildren, Christian and Zachary Arnold; sisters, Annis Flynn of Alexandria, VA and Mary Gipple of Greensboro. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 7th from 11:30 – 1:00 PM. Other times the family will be at the residence.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
