Reidsville - Thomas C. "Tommy" Stone, Sr., 72, of 705 Meadow Branch Road went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, December 19, 2011 after a lengthy battle with CHF and COPD.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Harold Venable, Rev. Marvin Bowman and Rev. Doug Bray officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens.Mr. Stone was born in Rockingham County on February 16, 1939 to the late Arthur Lee and Alloine Knighten Stone. He married the love of his life Vernie Tate, on October 6, 1961. They celebrated 50 years together this year. Together they had four children that they raised in Church. He was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Stone was saved by the grace of God in 1965 and he lived for the Lord since that time. He was a great example to his children, kneeling in prayer each night with them before bed. Tommy loved his family. He was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company. His passion was old coins, old cars and old tractors. Tommy loved people and never met a stranger. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his three brothers and four sisters,Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Vernie Tate Stone of the home; children, Kathy Gwin and husband, Marty, Darlene Moore and husband, Alvin, Tammy Farmer and husband, Jay, and Tommy Stone and wife, Cathy; grandchildren, Tonya Pate and husband, Brad, Debra Brown and husband, Kelly, Taryn Farmer, Matthew Stone and Jayce Farmer; sisters, Ruby Griffin, Louise Billingsley and husband, J.T., and Lona Mae Coe; brothers-in-law, Ralph Moore, Larry Tate and wife, Ann, Clyde Tate and wife, Frances; sisters-in-law, Sadie Zimmerman and husband, Harold, and Juanita Tate; numerous nieces and nephews, and beloved dog, Erica. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM on Wednesday December 21, 2011 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
