Reidsville – Thomas Eugene “Gene” Ward, 71, of Avante of Reidsville, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Annie Penn Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2009, 2:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home, with Rev. Jackie Talton officiating. Pallbearers will be Eddie Ward, Jason Ward, Andy Stone, C. W. Hubbard, Brandon Singleton, Matthew Singleton, Dean Ward and Michael Loftis. Mr. Ward was born in Rockingham County to the late Stevie and Ethel Loftis Ward. He was a charter member of Calvery Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his brothers, Larry Ward and wife, Lil, Carl Ward and wife, Shirley, Dewey Ward and wife, Junebug and Ernest Ward and wife, Teresa, all of Reidsville; sister, Linda Collins and husband, Edward, of Reidsville; and special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Magdelene Stone. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Avante for their loving care and support. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Friday, April 10, from 7-9 PM. At other times, the family will be at 10648 Cherry Grove Road.
