Thomas Raymond Jones

Reidsville – Thomas Raymond Jones, Sr., 90, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Annie Penn Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Smyrna Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Tom Wray and Dr. Mark Harris officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites. Mr. Jones was a native of Rockingham County, born on December 25, 1920 and was the son of the late John W. and Lucy Moore Jones. He was a devoted and life long member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, on the cemetery committee and other committees as well. Raymond retired from Macfield after 15 years of service. He was a well known Farmer in the Bethany Community and was an avid outdoorsman that loved working in his garden and yard. Mr. Jones proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seaman Second Class during World War II. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and neighbor. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Betty Massey Jones; brothers and sisters, Mary Lewey, Johnny Jones, Irvin Jones, Ruben Jones, Abner King, Bill King and Emma Smith. Raymond is survived by his son, Tommy Jones, Jr. and wife Joan; daughters, Owilda Bailey and husband, Chuck, and Ramona Jones all of Reidsville; grandchildren, Nick Bailey and wife Amanda of Raleigh, Candice Bailey of Reidsville, Mark Matthews of Chapel Hill, Shane Bailey and wife, Heather of China Grove, and Brad Matthews and wife, Megan of Summerfield, SC; great-grandchildren, Zoe Meredith, Hunter Matthews, Chris, Houston, and Sarah Bailey; brothers, Grady Jones and wife, Vernell of Reidsville and Bobby Jones and wife, Jerri of Graham; sister, Lucy Mason of Reidsville; several nieces and nephews and special family members, Mike and Debbie Brown. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 2, at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the home of son, Tommy, 4079 NC 65, Reidsville, NC 27320.
