Reidsville: Thomas L. “Tommy” Moore, 85, of 305 Pinedale Drive passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Avante Group Rehabilitation Center in Reidsville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 18, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Marilyn Weiler officiating. The burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery with Military graveside rites. Tommy was a native of Rockingham County and the son of the late George C. and Clara Sharpe Moore. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lea Wall Moore; his brothers, Alan Pratt Moore, Oma Moore; and his sister, Rebekah Moore Dunagan. Tommy was the owner operator of Reidsville Oil Company for over 50 years and was a faithful and loyal servant to his country, community and his faith. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion, and was the Chaplain for a number of years. He was the oldest living member of the Reidsville Elks Lodge 1723 serving in many capacities including Exalted Ruler in 1960 and chaplain until his recent health decline. One of his favorite activities was greeting members and friends while taking up money on Friday Family Nights at the lodge. Over his lifetime, he donated over 30 gallons of blood to the Red Cross and helped organize blood drives around the community. He was a longtime and faithful member of First United Methodist Church where he taught the Willing Workers Sunday School Class for many years. He served with The Gideons International handing out thousands of Bibles to Rockingham County area youth and was instrumental in starting the Madison Gideon Camp. He is survived by his children, Angie Moore Purgason and husband, Danny and Michael Moore and wife, Wendy all of Reidsville; grandchildren, Clay and William Moore; sister-in-law, Maxine Moore Loggins; special nephew, Darryl Dunagan; special friend, Mahalia McGee and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to his nurses and caregivers from Avante of Reidsville for their loving and professional care during his time with them. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 17, 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at Angie and Danny’s home (783 Berrymore Road).
