Thomas William Perkins (Tommy, Daddy, “Grampa”), age 75 of Reidsville, NC passed away shortly before noon on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19. Our family was blessed to have him in our lives. His nurses held his hand as he passed and the transition happened peacefully and quickly.
Tommy was born in Forsyth County, NC on April 10, 1945 and was the son of the late George Washington Perkins and Etta Gibbons Dyson. Tommy was preceded in death by his sisters Dot McGee, Cora Bussell, Georgeann Emerson, and his infant brother. Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Glenda Walker Perkins, four sons and their wives, Steve and Teresa, Charles and Tiffany, David and Amanda, and Brian and Stacey. Tommy has five grandchildren: Jenna, Joey, Jake, Tucker and Trey Perkins. Tommy is survived by his siblings Mary Hayes, Jean Isley, and Frank Dyson and wife Rita, mother-in-law Hazel Walker and sister-in-law Kaye Cobb as well as many special nieces and nephews.
Tommy graduated from Reidsville Senior High School in the class of 1964. Tommy began working at Hudson Lester Hardware Store in Reidsville when he was 15 years old. In 1981, Tommy started his own business, Reidsville Service Center, where he still worked alongside his family until his death.
Tommy loved spending time at his farm “Uncle Jim’s Cabin” where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, making stews, cutting wood and working the land. Tommy loved telling stories to anyone that would listen, especially his children and grandchildren.
Tommy was a faithful member of Lawsonville Road Baptist Church for over 55 years, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Tommy was always willing to assist anyone that needed help.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Annie Penn Emergency Department and the Green Valley Campus within the Moses Cone Healthcare System for their care and concern shown to the family. Thank you to our friends, family, churches and community for the prayers and support. We know Dad is in Heaven and is watching over us now.
