Thomas E. "Tommy" Saunders

Thomas E. “Tommy” Saunders, 88, of Reidsville, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Annie Penn Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Reidlawn Cemetery with Rev. Joe Tarpley officiating. Other times the family will receive friends at the home. People wishing to pay their respects may come by Wilkerson Funeral Home on Saturday January 16th from 8:30 AM until 5:00PM or Sunday January 17th from 8:30 AM until 12:30PM. Tommy was born in Rockingham County to the late James Arnold Saunders and Ruby Lee Walker Saunders. As a young man Tommy served in the National Guard for 7 years. He devoted his life to the family business, Saunders Hardware, starting as a young man and then became a co-owner with his father and brother. After retirement he enjoyed traveling and gardening. He loved sharing his wonderful homegrown tomatoes, was a passionate storyteller and loved spending time with his family, friends and beloved beagle, Abby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Saunders Lester and brother, Glenn James Saunders and his beloved, Abby. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Crenshaw Saunders; daughters, Stephanie Saunders, Susan Wilson and husband, Glenn; step son, Herbert Wayne Sellers and wife, Lee; grandchildren, Sue Allison Miller and husband, Wayne, Travis Moore and wife, Angela, Tommy Wilson and wife, Michelle; 7 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary S.
