Thomas Garland Tickle

Summerfield - Thomas "Garland" Tickle, 84, of 6883 NC Hwy 65, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2011.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Maple Lawn Baptist Church with Rev. Crawford Bradshaw officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites.Mr. Tickle was born in Rockingham County to the late Ashby Odell and Mary Diamont Tickle. He was a member of Maple Lawn Baptist and was an avid golfer who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Garland enjoyed playing the mandolin and other instruments. In his youth he played baseball with the Bethany team. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Odell Tickle, Willis Purvis Tickle, Melvin D. Tickle; his sisters, Lucy Walker, Yvonne Tickle, Joan Holland. Survivors include his beloved wife, Helen, of the home; children, Dianne Alsterberg and Penny Friddle both of Summerfield; grandchildren, Stephanie Rothe and husband, Robert, Kyle Friddle and wife, Angela; great grandchildren, Kayden and Kyleigh Friddle, Presley Rothe and a baby girl on the way; brothers; Otis H. Tickle and wife, Lucille, David S. Tickle and wife, Betty, Kenneth E. Tickle and wife, Kay; sisters, Treva Gregg, Thelma Dickens and husband, Ernest.The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 6 - 8 p.m. and at other times the family will be at the residence.
