Vance "Pop" Thomas Davenport, 92, of Summerfield, passed away on November 30, 2024. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Hillsdale Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Charles Mustian officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
Vance was born in Alamance County to the late John Grady Davenport and Mary Magdaline Thomas Davenport. He was truly one of a kind. He loved his family more than anything and worked hard every day to take care of them. He enjoyed looking after his cows and being outside, especially before his health slowed him down. You’d often find him riding his golf cart, taking in the beauty of everything he’d worked so hard for and feeling grateful for the blessings in his life. When he wasn’t on the move, he loved sitting in his swing, just soaking it all in.
In addition to his parents, Vance was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Smith; brothers, John Davenport and Elton Davenport; infant son, Charles Thomas Davenport; son-in-law, Jimmy Pearman; brother-in-law, Don Russell. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jo Ellyn Davenport; daughter, Rebecca Pearman; son, Michael R. Davenport; daughter, Nancy Kinney (Dennis); grandchildren, Jamie Pearman (Nellie), Brooke Mustian (Caleb), Samantha Kinney, and Joe Kinney (Katie); great-grandchildren, Luke Mustian, Oakley Mustian, Sydney Rhodes (Chase), Abbey Hayes (Justin), Jaxson Kinney, Henley Kinney, and Sawyer Kinney; great-great-grandchildren, Jayce and Ava Hayes; sister, Elaine Valentine; and brother, Donald Davenport (Sue); and sister-in-law Hazel Russell.
