Reidsville: Velma Johnson Haney Williams, 87, of Jacob’s Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Vaughan officiating. The burial will follow in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born in Alleghany County, NC to the late John and Cleo Blackburn Johnson. She was formerly employed with American Tobacco Company, Chase Bag and Creighton Shirt Makers. She also worked at home for many years as homemaker and tobacco farmer. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church. She loved music, especially playing the guitar and keyboards. She spent many hours gardening and caring for her flowers. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robertson Carter Haney; and 4 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children, Roger Lee Haney and wife, Shirley of Reidsville, Catrine’ Purgason and husband, Mike of Reidsville and Renee Mott and husband, Richard of Mt. Rainer, WA; four grandchildren, Wendy, Debra, Andrea and Jeremy; six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; special niece, Marie Thomas of Sanford, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at Catrine’s home (1781 Flat Rock Road).
