Versa Arbon Carter

Reidsville, NC – Versa Arbon Carter, Sr., 86, of 8578 NC Hwy 87, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Rockingham County Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Friday, February 22, 2013 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David LeGrande and David Kamoda officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military rites performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. Mr. Carter was born in Rockingham County to the late John Moody Carter, Sr. and Jessie Boyd Reid Carter. He was a Navy veteran serving in WWII and a life member of VFW and DAV. He was a retiree of Mason Dixon Line Trucking Company with 31 years service and a member of College Park Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, farming, NASCAR racing and fishing. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Estelle Griffith, Mozelle Reid, Lois Marichi, Eileen Kamoda, Evelyn Ware and Annie Ruth Stewart and brother, John Moody Carter. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Coleman Carter of the home; son, Versa A. Carter, Jr. and wife, Ellen of Jacksonville, FL.; daughters, Jacqueline Hester and husband, Patrick of Carpinteria, CA and Janice Buckelew of Nipomo CA; granddaughter, Erica Bottorff and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6-8 PM.
