Eden, NC: Violet “Marie” Griffin, 75, of Eden, died suddenly on Monday, April 11, 2016 due to a tragic fire at Arbor Ridge Assisted Living in Eden, N.C.
Marie was born May 8, 1940 in Caswell County, N.C. to the late Harry and Dotsie Ferrell. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, James K. Griffin, a daughter, Sherry Craddock, and a brother, Harry Ferrell Jr.
Marie attended Bartlett Yancey High School in Yanceyville, N.C. where she met her beloved husband. She enjoyed being a mother and was a volunteer at her daughter’s elementary school, as well as a leader of a Girl Scout troop. She enjoyed many crafts, including sewing clothes and costumes for her children. She loved listening to music and was an avid Elvis fan. An extremely loving and caring woman, she enjoyed helping people, especially the elderly and those with special needs. She also adored children and derived much joy from her grandchildren. Marie had a green thumb and filled her home inside and out with many beautiful flowers and plants. She loved deeply and was loved very much in return.
During the 1980’s Marie worked in one of the family business retail shops, Griffin Vacuum Center, in Reidsville where she enjoyed interacting with people in the community. She and her husband were members of First Baptist Church of Reidsville for several years, but more recently attended Dan River Wesleyan Church in Eden.
Marie is survived by two children, Kenneth Griffin and wife, Laura of Madison, N.C.; Denise Griffin Jackson and husband Jonathan of Hendersonville, N.C.; Grandchildren, Celeste Craddock, Adam Griffin, Abigayle Jackson, and Lauren Jackson; Great Grandchildren, Austin Goins and Hannah Goins; two brothers, Benny “Pete” Ferrell and Mike Ferrell; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 1pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville. A memorial service will follow at 2pm.
