Reidsville: Virginia Dare Nichols Oakley, 84, of 150 Myer Road, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday evening, July 11, 2017 at the Penn Nursing Center after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Midway United Methodist Church with Dr. Ron Tuck and Rev. Jonathan Marlowe officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
Mrs. Oakley was a native of Guilford County and the daughter of the late, Richard and Bessie Maness Nichols. She retired from Sears Mail Order with over 25 years of service. She was a longtime and faithful member of Midway United Methodist Church where she loved singing in the choir and performing with the hand bell choir in the service of her Lord. She would always light up the room with her smile, her loving heart, her forgiving spirit and would consistently make everyone feel welcomed and special. Family, music, cooking, holidays and special occasions were her lifetime passions. Along with her parents, Mrs. Oakley was also preceded in death by her grandson, Dennis Oakley.
Mrs. Oakley is survived by her husband of 64 years, David Lee Oakley, Jr. of the home; her children, Cynthia Andrews and husband, Roy, Sherri Tuck and husband, Ron, David K. Oakley and wife, Nancy and Jeff Oakley and wife, Wendy; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and brother, Richard Nichols and wife, Gloria.
The family would like to thank the staff of Penn Nursing Center for the loving support and care for Mrs. Oakley.
