Virginia P. Richardson

Mrs. Virginia P. Richardson, 96, of Reidsville, passed away on Thursday at the Brian Center in Eden. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 2 PM at Smyrna Presbyterian Church. Rev. Tom Wray will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Richardson was born on May 31, 1919 in Rockingham County to the late L. A. Puckett, Sr. and Delia Pruitt Puckett. She was a lifetime member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for the Women’s Class. She was a choir member for over sixty years and the first female Elder in Smyrna Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Purgason; her daughter, Kaye Shelton; her siblings, Elizabeth P. Lawson, Sallie P. Rakestraw, L. A. Puckett, Jr., Elaine P. Sharp, Richard Puckett, Alfred Puckett and Donald Puckett. Survivors include her children, Tommy Purgason, Hazel Russell and husband, Don, Peggy Baynes and husband Charles; Grandchildren, Greg and Brannon Russell, Jeffrey Baynes, Paula McBride, Stephanie Dunlap and Steven Shelton; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth McCollum, Polly Blankenbaker and Lloyd Puckett; two step-children, Johnny Richardson and Millie Setliff. Mrs. Richardson was also preceded by two husbands, James Motley and John Richardson. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6-8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
