Virginia Stokes Williams

Reidsville: Virginia Stokes Williams, 91, formerly of 2437 Wentworth St, went home to be with the Lord with all of her family by her side, Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Penn Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 6th at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Boyd Joyce, Rev. Stephen Blair and Major Andrew Wiley officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Mrs. Williams was born in Alabama to the late John and Callie Hausey Stokes. She was retired from Eckerd Drug as the fountain manager. In her later years, she joined Salem United Methodist Church. Mrs. Williams was a former soldier of the Salvation Army volunteering weekly to reach others. She was honored with the “Long Service Award” for her 50 years of membership and faithful service to the Salvation Army. The City of Reidsville recognized her by celebrating this special event as the “Virginia Williams Day”. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Neely B. Williams; her grandson, Tommy Williams; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Williams; son-in-law, Bobby Horton; and 8 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Jesse L. Williams and wife, Linda D. and Leon Williams and wife, Carolyn Ann all of Reidsville and Carlos James and wife, Barbara of Orlando, FL; daughters, Maidie Williams Paschal and husband, Roger, Betty Jean Williams Pettigrew and husband, Warren and Deborah Williams Shreve and Jerry all of Reidsville; 9 grand children; 9 great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her faithful friends, Ruth Apple, Mary Everette and Linda Benfield. Finally, she leaves behind her longtime companion and dachshund, Precious. The family will receive friends Friday, December 5 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at her residence. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the loving care of the entire staff of the Penn Nursing Center. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 704 Barnes Street, Reidsville, NC 27320.
