Reidsville–Walter Samuel Fairman, Jr. (74) of Reidsville, died on Friday, December 13, 2013.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Evergreen Memory Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be Monday evening at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Walter was born in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania to the late Walter Samuel Fairman, Sr. and Stella Sarver Fairman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wyley, George, and Lester Fairman, all of Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Kelly Fairman and his daughters: Patience Fairman and friend Wayne Evans; Kelly and Sarah Fairman-Stokes of Hillsborough. Walter has one living brother, Phillip Fairman of Florida and a special sister-in-law Linda Kelly Phillips of Reidsville.
Walter’s first love was taking care of his wife, Nancy. He loved his family and the outdoors. Mr. Fairman was retired from the United States Marine Corps after 22 1/2 years of service and a veteran of the Vietnam War. Walter received two purple hearts and a Bronze Star for his bravery with many other military honors. While serving, he engaged as a drill instructor, a military police instructor, a meteorologist, as well as a scuba diver instructor. He was also retired from U.S. Postal Service in the Bulk Mail division. He was a loving and caring husband and daddy. He was a huge animal lover with several adopted pets. He was always keeping busy with things around the house and never slowing down in life.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to send memorials to the Salvation Army (P.O. Box 686 Reidsville) and the Rockingham County Animal Shelter (250 Cherokee Camp Rd, Reidsville).
