Reidsville – Walter Raymond Stanley, 82, of 702 Thomas Street, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Annie Penn Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at First Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Mark Tolodziecki officiating. Interment will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery with military honors performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. Mr. Stanley was born in Rockingham County to the late Linwood Gunn Stanley, Sr. and Hattie Diamond Stanley and was a retiree of the US Postal Service with thirty five years service. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and received a Bronze Star. He was a member of First Congregational Christian Church where he served on the building committee, as a trustee, a deacon, head usher and scout leader. He was also a volunteer fire fighter for thirty three years. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, L.G. Stanley, Jr.; sisters, Rebekah Soyars, Matilda ”Pete” Yount and granddaughter, Samantha Wilson. Survivors include his wife, Katherine C. Stanley of the home; son, Gerald Stanley and wife, Donna of Reidsville; daughter, Sheila Hill and husband, Jeff of Bahama, NC; grandchildren, Dan Hill, Emily Hill and Tyler Wilson; sisters, Billie Stanley and Edna Walker. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 6 to 8 PM and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Christian Church, Men’s Fellowship or Food Pantry, 1863 South Park Drive, Reidsville, North Carolina 27320.
