Reidsville – William “Earl” Boyd, 77, of 114 Pannell Road got on the big red truck to go to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 surrounded by family and friends at Annie Penn Hospital.A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Boswell officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Boyd was born in Rockingham County to the late Homer I. and Katherine Rebecca Cook Boyd. He served as a veteran in the Army National Guard. He was formerly employed with Guilford Dairy, Flavorich Dairy and Fieldcrest Mills. After his retirement from Fieldcrest, he was the owner, operator of Boyd’s Trucking. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church all of his life. He loved gardening and was an avid sportsman, especially fishing. He was a longtime volunteer for the REMSCO House and formerly served as the Chairman of the Board. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.Mr. Boyd is survived by his wife, Sarah Catherine Mitchell Boyd of the home; his sons, Daniel Boyd and wife, MaryLynn and John Boyd and wife, Sharon; his daughter, Janet Rakestraw and husband, Harry all of Wentworth; grandchildren, Jason Rakestraw and wife, Sarah, Katherine R. Hall and husband, Justin and Kris Boyd; great grandchildren, Dylan and Luke Rakestraw and Hunter Hall; sister, Delores Butler of Danville, VA.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 10 at Calvary Baptist Church and other times at the home.Memorial Contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 7860 NC Hwy 87 North, Reidsville, NC 27320.
