Reidsville: William Chris Fowlkes, 49, of 2216 Doe Run Road, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, March 16, 2009 at Piedmont Baptist Church with Dr. Duane King and Rev. Dan Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery with military rites. Chris was born in Rockingham County to Annie Craddock Fowlkes and the late William Glenn Fowlkes. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church. Chris was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force with the National Intelligence stationed in Alaska as a Morse System Operator. Airman Fowlkes received comments in the Weekly Activity Reports for his contributions to the detection of National level intelligence. He also contributed to the overall mission of the 6981st ESS. Airman Fowlkes was also cited for his superb coordination with the Radio Direction which resulted in the reporting of highly sensitive intelligence information directly to the Alaskan Air Command. Along with completing an American Government course at the University of Alaska, he was president of his flight’s activity council. After his military service, he worked for The American Tobacco Company where he received extensive training. He loved working with computers and electronics. He traveled extensively with Focke to Germany and all over the United States. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Daisy Crowder. He is survived by his wife, Debra Fowlkes of the home; daughter, Jessica King and husband, Corey of Greensboro; step-daughter, Jennifer Collins of Greensboro; granddaughter, Jocelyn King; mother, Annie Fowlkes; brother, Randall Fowlkes and wife, Dawn; brothers-in-law Henry and Garland Crowder; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Bill Pegram. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 15 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Other times the family will be at the home and also at the home of his mother, Annie Fowlkes at 157 Irvin Farm Road, Reidsville, NC. Wilkerson Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
