Reidsville – William (W.H.) Harrelson Hatchett Jr., of 3033 Allison Rd., passed away at his home in Pelham, N.C., Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the age of 88. He was born in Reidsville, NC, December 9, 1925, to the late William Harrelson Hatchett Sr. and Florence May Duke Hatchett. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Margaret Dameron Hatchett, two children, his daughter, Margaret Hatchett Rowland of Pelham and son, William Harrelson Hatchett III also of Pelham, two grandsons, Harrelson Grant Rowland and John Mark Rowland, and devoted son-in-law, Floyd “Skip” Rowland. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and in-laws of whom he was very fond.
He was a graduate of Cobb Memorial High School. He was a tobacco and cattle farmer by trade and throughout his life was very active in his community and church. He was a charter member of the Cobb Ruritan Club, served many years on the Farmers Home Administration (FHA) Board, member of 4-H, and a past scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troops 338 and 372. He was a lifelong member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and trustee for numerous years. He was a member and past master of Caswell Brotherhood Lodge #11, the Amran Temple, and Scottish Rite.
Visitation and viewing will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, NC on Saturday, June 7, from 6-8pm. The family will receive visitors at the residence at other times. The funeral service will be held at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, in Ruffin, NC on Sunday, June 8, at 3pm. A short graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.
