Summerfield
Mr. William “Bill” Lane Oakley, 85 of Summerfield passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 2:00 P. M. in Center United Methodist Church, 6142 Lake Brandt Road, Greensboro, NC 27455. Rev. Suzanne G. Michael will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery.
Bill loved the Lord and served Jesus Christ in many capacities. He served as youth leader and Sunday School teacher at Newlyn Street United Methodist Church for twenty-five years. He served in many different capacities of church administration. Bill was an active member of the Center United Methodist Church Men and attended church until he entered the Church Triumphant. He loved people and they loved him. Bill worked at Proximity Mercantile, Cone Rayon Finishing, Revolution Products and Standards and Cone Customer Service.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Doris and his little furry baby, Savannah, a Dachshund rescue and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Allen Oakley and Mattie Lee Dodson Oakley; his brothers and sisters, Ogburn Gillie, Jack Oakley, Percy Oakley, Margaret Southern and Florence Allred.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Center United Methodist Church, 6142 Lake Brandt Road, Greensboro, NC 27455, Hospice and Pallative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405 or Guilford County Animal Shelter, 4525 W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27409.
