Reidsville-Mr. William “Buddy” Porter, 82, of Reidsville went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 5th, 2013.
Mr. Porter was born on April 8th, 1931, in Rockingham County to the late John William Porter and Myrtle Dixon Porter. He attended Bethany High School. He attended Lee’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Greensboro. Buddy was a special gift to his family, friends and everyone he met. He was kind especially to children and old folks. He gave monetary gifts to those in need never expecting anything in return. He enjoyed farming and meeting with life-long friends from Lorillard Tobacco Company. He enjoyed spending time with Judy Shreve and family, especially on vacations at the beach.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers and sisters, Grady Porter, Mary Roberts, Maymie Brown and J.W. Porter, Jr.
Mr. Porter is survived by the love of his life, Judy Shreve, her sons, Tommy Anthony and Timothy and the Shreve grandchildren; his sister, Betty & husband David Stewart Tickle and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Carol Williams-Gilbert and Rev. Larry Scott will officiate. Interment will follow in Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from six until eight o’clock at the funeral home and other times at the homes of Betty Tickle, 471 Glencoe Loop Rd., Summerfield or Judy Shreve, 2136 Scott Rd., Brown Summit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lee’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Church Budget.
