Reidsville – William “Bill” Franklin Whaley, Jr., of 901 Knowles Rd., 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, May 8, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at First Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Mark Tolodziecki and Rev. Dan Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Whaley was born on July 7, 1926 to the late Nellie and William Franklin Whaley, Sr. He was of the Christian faith and was a member of First Congregational Christian Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and Ushers. Bill worked for Short Sugars BBQ for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, making stews and the family gatherings along with the Easter egg hunts at the home. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather that loved his family very much and especially enjoyed spending time with all the generations of grandchildren. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Russell Whaley, two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Louise Taylor Whaley of the home; children, Nellie Hobbs and husband, Fred, Faye Demory, Delores Trent and husband, Larry, Mary Apple and husband, Gene, Tim Whaley, Deborah Tyndall and husband, Doug, Michelle Whaley, Samantha Campbell and husband, Tommy and Travis Whaley; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one great-great- grandchild on the way; sisters, Sudie Comito and Irene Baysden.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on May 10, 2011 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
