Wyomie Smith Kimbro, 92, of Reidsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at her son’s home under Hospice care.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 15, 2022 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery.
Wyomie was born in Caswell County to the late Julius and Virgie Mae Loftis Smith. She married the love of her life, Thomas Edward Kimbro on Valentine’s Day in 1951 and they shared 31 loving years together. She was a devoted wife, mother, and later the caregiver to her husband throughout his extended illness. After his death she went back to school and received her CNA license so that she could help others, which she did by working at Maplewood Nursing Center for over 20 years. She loved working in her yard and cutting grass with her John Deere lawn mower, which she did until last year at the age of 91. She had an exceptionally green thumb and enjoyed being out in nature, especially feeding her blue birds. Wyomie was a daily caller to the popular “What’s on Your Mind” radio broadcast by Moon Mullins. She was an excellent cook and there was always a place at her table for any guest that stopped by, day or night and was known in the Lawsonville community for her canned vegetables, especially her signature green beans and pickles. She loved to read, spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and loved finding special “treasures” at the Salvation Army store.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two infant daughters; sons, Charles and Gary Kimbro; brothers, Julius Leonard Smith, Jr., Charles Jefferson Smith and Cecil Allen Smith.
She is survived by her son, Tommy Kimbro and wife, Jennifer: grandchildren, Catherine, Jake and Graceanne Kimbro; sisters, Joann Parsons, Isa Parker and husband, Richard, Glenda Davis, Sandra Smith and Jewel Frazee and husband, Tom; beloved nieces and nephews; and her special “Angel”, Nick Daves and special cousin, Regina Pierce.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 14th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the home of Tommy and Jennifer, 250 Gold Leaf Lane, Reidsville.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lawrence Fusco, Hospice of Rockingham County and the staff at Chilton’s Family Care Home for their excellent care.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
